Reflections

As 2022 draws to a close, it’s only natural to reflect on another passed year.

For some people this can be a happy and motivating tool, for others a challenging experience.

An exercise I like to do is; make a list of things to have accomplished, or are proud of in 2022.

If you struggle to think, maybe looking through your photo album on your phone can help refresh your memory from earlier in the year.

Once you make your list no matter how long or small, you should find looking back, reading the list and seeing the photos as joyful and inspiring.

Maybe you’ve achieved a life long goal or you’ve overcome an inner ick. Prioritised an area of your life that often gets neglected maybe.

However, if you look back at your list and it leaves you feeling unmoved, indifferent or a bit meh, maybe 2022 has been as progressive as it could have been.

In either case, I’m sure we all want 2023 to be our best year yet.

So for that reason I want us all to write down a list of goals we want to achieve in 2023.

I separate mine into different areas;

Professional goals; like learning a specific skill set or area of knowledge, a progression in a KPI, earning more money, working less hours for the same money, having a better sense of purpose and fulfillment.

Personal growth; continuing with monthly counseling, investing in my health, reading X amount of books, exercising X amount of times, getting my eyes and ears tested, lose 10lbs, gain 10lbs etc, get braces etc

Life goals; Buy a new house, get a new car, pay off the mortgage, save X amount, invest X amount, have X amount disposable income.

And my personal favorite!!

Bucket List; Run an ultra marathon, skydive, swim with sharks, walk to base camp, go on a 6 month sabbatical, save the penguins, teach in africa, tour america in campervan,

I like to have 2 or 3 goals from each of the professional, personal and life goal sections to ensure my efforts are being spread evenly. Then 1 from the bucket list. I want to do 1 thing every year that changes my life. Sometimes it just requires booking like a skydive, other times it may need planning and training like an Iroman or walking Base camp.

But I want to look back on my year and think “Yea i’ve progressed my work, myself and my life by doing these 8 things and I’ve done one thing i've never experienced before and may never do againl.”
