There are two types of people. Here & now people and dopamine driven people. The former are better at enjoying the moment and are happier, the latter think more about the future and more dissatisfied with status quo and hope for happiness in the future.

Learning more and more about the brain and its impact on our body and behaviour is a non-negotiable with ourselves here at team peak and also deeply interesting.

Here’s a few takeaways from a few of my current books.

-The Molecule of more

What i learned from the book so far

Dopamine is more than just a neurotransmitter of happiness. Everything that takes place in the future is driven by dopamine. Everything you are doing today to make your future a better one is driven by dopamine. It promises that happiness is just around the corner. But once you reach it, it still is not happy. Wanting something is different from liking something. You need to switch from the dopamine drive to the Here and now neurotransmitters like Serotonin, endorphins and vasopressin/oxytocin to enjoy the moment and life and be much happier. You need a balance in life, like always.

I learned to appreciate the surroundings more often. To just sit around and observe the nature around me. It brings peace and connection, as well as being more balanced overall.

-How we learn

What I learned from the Book so far

Even the brain of newborn babies is more capable of predictions than a super computer. We are far from creating a machine which outpaces the human brain. Our brains are so malleable they can adjust to many difficult externalities they face

How we store memory, how our brain works when it implies new methods and to what extent we can trick our brain to learn better. Through the prediction error we excite ourselves and therefore learn. We can only truly learn deeply if we interact with the topic or subject.

-The mind

What I learned from the Book so far

Experience has to be experienced.

Everything we experience (see, touch, smell and so on) updates the inner model of the real world. The brain reacts to the environment incredibly fast. This is due to the models inside our brain. Every mistake we make is converted into usable information for the future. The brain is a prediction machine. It predicts all the time, in every second. Every action. Even when you lift up your glass of water
