Can Adjustments Boost Your Immune System?

I’m sure in recent weeks all know of somebody who has had this flu that seems to be doing the rounds lately.

Interestingly, I can probably recall 20 individuals if not more who have had the flu over the past week. But despite this (touch wood) I haven't had a sniffle, let alone anything more than that.

Which begs the question why? Considering I have close contact with 100+ clients every week, why is it that some of us can fight off external viruses and injections, yet others are susceptible to them.

Could part of the answer be the fact I've been adjusted twice per week for over 2 years now.

To truly understand the significance of that you need to know the neuroscience, the brain science, behind an adjustment.

The prefrontal cortex, which is the large area of the brain behind your forehead that forms during early years, is in charge of higher executive functions. Skills such as planning, problem solving and reasoning.

It is also the “hub” of your parasympathetic nervous system, a part of the central nervous system that regulates homeostasis.

A nervous system which operates with high levels of parasympathetics is a healthy one. The brain is relaxed therefore the body is relaxed. You will have a better immune system, blood pressure, heart rate, breathing rate, digestion, sleep, energy and list goes on.

What connects this amazing part of the brain to the visceral organs below is the vagus nerve, and together allows your brain and body to work together in cohesion to live a healthy life.

“What's this got to do with an adjustment?” I hear you say.

Well some very clever neuroscientists discovered that an adjustment improves the activity in certain regions of the brain.

That certain area is indeed the Prefrontal Cortex. Therefore we can draw strong connections between being adjusted regularly and improved health, not just simply pain relief.

Is this why I have been able to fight off the winter flu? Who knows.

However I'm confident in knowing the 100+  adjustments I receive every year will have undoubtedly improved the function of my prefrontal cortex and therefore very likely improved my health no end.

Does this change why you get adjusted and the perceived benefit you gain from regular lifestyle care?

Only you can answer that question for yourself. For me the answer is clear.
