Our Favourite 3 Reasons Why We Get Regularly Adjusted

Most people think that chiropractors just treat back and neck pain, but there's so much more to it than that. Adjustments can help back and neck pain, as well as pain anywhere else in the body. But that's just the tip of the iceberg, there's so many other benefits to getting regularly adjusted, so I’m going to share my favourite ones with you today.

  • Better sleep

Your brain and nervous system controls everything you do. Every decision, every movement, every internal function. Your nervous system is responsible for the secretion of melatonin in the evenings to make you sleepy, and stops secreting it in the morning to help you wake up. If this process is affected in any way, your sleep cycle is going to be affected. This can mean you have difficulty getting to sleep, or you wake up feeling groggy and tired. If your nervous system function can be improved and regulated then this process can return to normal, meaning you get to sleep easier, sleep better through the night, and wake up feeling refreshed and ready to go!

  • Reduced stress

Similar to your sleep cycle, your stress response is also controlled by your nervous system. When our body is in a state of stress a fight or flight response is triggered. Stress can be physical, emotional, or chemical, or a combination of all three. A part of our brain called the amygdala is responsible for this response, and when it's all fired up, another part of our brain called the prefrontal cortex starts to switch off. Adjustments work by helping to get the prefrontal cortex firing again. When this happens, the amygdala starts to switch off, so our stress response is reduced and our body can start to relax and heal.

  • Improved mood

Your prefrontal cortex is responsible for a lot of functions. It helps us control our impulses, focus our attention, make decisions, problem solving, and emotional regulation. As adjustments can help with pain relief by helping ensure our muscles and joints are moving correctly, regular adjustments mena we start to feel a lot more comfortable physically. By getting the prefrontal cortex firing again, adjustments can also help improve our mood by regulating our emotions, allowing us to be more in control of how we’re feeling.
