Putting yourself First

Think about the responsibilities you have in your life. You can think about your work responsibilities, your home life ones, all of them at once if you like. We all have them, it's part of life.

I want you to think about what kind of things specifically you do to fulfill them. Do you have to do lots of physical activity for them? Maybe lots of repetitive movements or traveling? How sharp does your mind need to be for you to A) do them and B) do them well?

Now I want you to think about why they’re important. It can be as simple as ‘because it earns money’ or ‘Because I love seeing the smile on my kids' face’ to as much as ‘if they don’t get done a whole company with a full team of employees will fall’. Either way they must be super important to us or else they just wouldn't get done.

That level of importance is something I hear all the time in clinic too. In fact, people often deny starting care because their other responsibilities take up so much time or money that they can’t spare anymore for themselves. They put themselves low on the priority list and keep the responsibilities high.

I think that’s one of the stupidest ways to think.

We already know what responsibilities you have and why they’re important. But what happens if you can’t fulfill your role in them anymore? YOU are the one that holds your responsibilities together and without YOU everything would have to stop.

Your responsibilities should be a motivator to keep in good health, not a barrier.

In order to prioritise everything the way you do, YOU HAS TO BE TOP.

YOU are the one doing the prioritising. YOU are the one that holds the responsibilities. YOU have to be able to do.
